This project examines the links between brain anatomy/function (MRI), genetics (whole exome sequencing) and cognitive functioning in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients. With MRI at 7 Tesla, we acquire multiple types of high-resolution brain images (T1, T2* and SWI, ASL, BOLD fMRI). With machine learning algorithms and cross-validation techniques we aim at defining the combination of neuro-imaging/genetic markers that are most predictive of individual cognitive tests performance in healthy subjects and patients.
We have setup and tested the 7 Tesla MR imaging protocol that will be used for data collection with T2D patients and healthy controls. We have optimized image analyses methods to obtain high-resolution MR-based myelin-related cortical maps (see Figure).
